Situated approximately 45-60 minutes North East of the house,

the medieval town of Cognac provides a wide range of

attractions, including shopping, restaurants but also a wide

range of experiences in relation to the drink of Cognac.

There are a lot of Cognac attractions throughout the region

The main houses provide tourist visits, samples, museum and shops with tours starting at around 9€ for around an hour, although each house varies. The tours generally explain the vineyards, the distillation process, the ageing warehouses, the making of the barrels and the blending of the cognac.

We have personally visited the Hennessy house and undertaken the tour & were certainly impressed. The tour included visiting the working ageing warehouses and we were able to see the oldest barrel of cognac they have (around 200 years old).

Whilst these main houses provide a range of activities there is a wide range of smaller, local houses making cognac or Pineau Charente and are open to the public for tours and tasting (degustation). The contact details are:

Remy Martin: Open Mon - Sat Mid-Apr to Mid-Oct (other times with booking)

Martell Cognac: 05 45 36 33 33. Open 7 days a week April to October and by appointment for the rest of the year

Courvoisier:. Located in Jarnac. Open every day (except Sat in May and Sept)

Cognac Otard: Open all year round, 7 days a week (in the summer months).

Camus Cognac. .Open Jun to Sep Mon to Sat and Oct to Mar by appointment.
